“Evening, Boss.”
Noah chuckled at Keris as the fae stepped behind the bar. “Not sure how Cain would feel about that. He signs our paychecks.”
Keris waved off the comment with a flippant gesture. “He does, but even he knows who really keeps this place running smoothly.” He started to lift the metal grate blocking the bar area off, but Mathias practically materialized out of nowhere and stopped him. “I’m not fucking helpless,” Keris grumbled.
“No, but you’re pregnant,” Mathias shot back as he locked the grate in place. “Tobias would roast my ass in a heartbeat if he saw you doing that.”
“Whatever,” Keris replied, rolling his eyes.
Noah left their bartenders to it and headed for the office. He had his own work to do before the club opened. He sat in the chair and fired up the laptop. First things first: emails. He pulled up the inbox for the club and deleted all the spam. Then he started going through the applications for new members. He filtered them into another folder as he went, but when a painfully familiar name popped up, he froze.
Soloman Barlow.
Sitting back and scrubbing his hands down his face, Noah stared at the application. For a Dom. He closed his eyes and let his head fall back against the chair. The last time he’d seen that name, he’d been so lovestruck that he’d missed the quite obvious signs of trouble in Paradise.
“You look like you’ve had a hell of a night, and it’s not even begun.”
And… there was the other half of his turmoil. Since their meeting and brief playtime here at the club, Noah had found himself drawn to Mathias’ brother Nicolas in a way he didn’t want to be. Playing was one thing, but the connection he felt with Nicolas rivaled the heat of a dragon’s fire.
Noah turned to face the wolf-in-man’s-clothing standing in the office doorway. “Yeah, you could say that.”
Nicolas gestured toward the other chair in the office, and Noah nodded. The wolf sat down, looking every bit like the Dom Noah had always dreamed of. “Talk to me?”
Noah sighed and glanced back at the computer screen and the application. “About ten years ago, I tried my hand at submission. Soloman promised me he would be everything I wanted, and I believed him. I was a fucking idiot.”
“What happened?”
“What didn’t happen? He cheated on me with several guys, for starters.” He looked back over at Nicolas. “I’ve got nothing against polyamory, multiple partners, that sort of thing, but it isn’t for me.”
“Likewise,” Nicolas said. “But there’s more to it.”
