Flourish – Mychael Black

Dragon shifter Tobias Saraf isn’t looking for his mate, but when he spots a gorgeous fae on the dance floor, everything changes.

Sparks fly between them, and Keris finds himself wanting things he never wanted. Tobias vows to do anything he can to keep Keris safe and happy, especially when Keris’ fae family is determined to interfere with everything.

EXCERPT:

“Come home.”

“No.”

Jira Arinar sighed. “You belong here,” she said. “Among your own kind, among your subjects.”

“I seem to recall Father telling me I am not welcome back until I — how did he put it? oh, yes — ’clean up my act and be a man.’ So, no, Mother, I will not return home.”

This time, her sigh held a touch of disgust. “Well, he is right. A prince — even an omega — should not be chasing after random men and wearing… that stuff.” Keris could almost hear her sneer. “He should be handsomely dressed and performing his duties. He should –”

“Goodbye, Mother.” He hung up and resisted the urge to toss his phone across the fucking room. Instead, he just threw it over onto the couch. “Bitch.”

Keris honestly didn’t know why he ever bothered to answer whenever her name popped up. Hell, he was still a bit surprised she’d deigned to touch a phone to begin with instead of delegating the burden of calling her only son to a servant.

“Now what did that poor cell ever do to you?”

From where he sat in the recliner sideways, legs draped over one arm while he leaned against the other, Keris tossed up a middle-finger salute. His best friend, Shaun, snorted and grabbed Keris’ phone and put it on the coffee table.

“Parental issues again?” Shaun asked as he dropped onto the couch.

Keris let his head fall back and groaned, eyes closing. “How’d you guess?”

“Wanna go out? You’re off tonight,” Shaun suggested. “Might do you some good.”

“Where?” He raised his head to look at his friend. Shaun just shrugged. “Wait, I thought you had a date.”

Shaun flopped backward with a grumble. “She wants the whole deal: pretty house, white picket fence, kids, a doting husband. No, thanks. I have zero desire for any of that.”

Keris chuckled. At this rate, Shaun would die a bachelor. “What about the new place that opened up down the block from Steelbound?”

“Eclipse?” Shaun nodded. “That’ll work. Been curious about it, to be honest.”

Keris stood and stretched. His back itched where his wings had been flattened against the chair. Some fae hid theirs, but Keris never had. Hell, they got him great tips at work. Maybe they’d get him a nice hot dick to ride this time.
