Alec woke up before Dylan, and he had no idea what time it was. His internal clock was still getting used to the time changes. When he looked at his cell on the bedside table, he saw it was almost eight in the morning. The dream lingered in his mind, whether he wanted it to or not. For now, he figured it was probably best that he not tell Dylan. It was just a dream, after all. He leaned over and kissed his lover softly. Dylan smiled up at him, his eyes soft and deep, allowing Alec to lose himself in them for a moment.

“Hungry?” he asked before leaning down to kiss Dylan’s forehead.

Dylan nodded, and they got up and dressed. They headed downstairs and into the kitchen where Mrs. Bartlet was humming while fixing breakfast.

“Good morning,” she said cheerfully without missing a beat. “I trust you both slept well?” She poured them each a cup of coffee.

They sat at the table and laughed quietly to each other as they realized she had cooked enough to feed an army.

“Yes, ma’am, we slept quite well. And you?” Dylan asked her as he buttered a piece of toast.

Mrs. Bartlet sat down at a small table across from them to eat her own breakfast. “Very well, thank you. What have you boys got planned for your first day here?”

They looked at each other, then at her.

“Well, first off…” Alec smiled at her. “We insist you join us for meals. We can’t bear to see you sit alone.”

Mrs. Bartlet smiled softly, and Alec thought he saw the shimmer of a tear in her eye as Dylan pulled a chair out for her. Plate and mug in hand, she came over and sat down as Dylan pushed her chair in for her before taking his seat again.

“You boys are too kind. Thank you,” she said, her smile warming the room and melting their hearts.

They ate and chatted about their lives, and she gave them a list of sights to go see in London. When they were done, they helped her clean up, despite her protests, and kissed her on the cheek before heading out the door.
