Farion watched as the wyvern rose in the air, readying itself for its final dive. He lifted his sword and steadied himself. The air turned stale as the massive creature hurled toward him. Farion drew in a deep breath, ready to either send the beast to its death or die trying.
The wyvern stretched out its neck, baring its teeth, prepared for the kill. Seconds later, a flash of intense heat and light blinded Farion. When he was finally able to open his eyes, he saw the wyvern dead at his feet. Farion looked around, not sure whether he should be wary or thankful. He squinted and saw a figure in the distance.
Farion slowly limped his way to a man sitting under a tree. The man’s bright red hair stood out against pale skin. Enemy or not, Farion had to admit: the man was striking in appearance. Farion stopped a few feet away and began to bandage himself in various places.
“Thanks,” he muttered without looking up.
“I am called Vesryn, and I am the king of these woods.”
It figured. The light fae were known for being rather conceited, claiming dominion over various woods and mountain realms. Farion snorted and finished bandaging the last cut on his thigh.
“Why are you here? You’re a bit young for wandering so far from your kin’s lands.”
Farion looked up, insulted by the tactless question. “What makes you think I have to explain myself to you? I go where I please.”
The fae’s eyes sparkled bright green, as if the damnable creature laughed. “I just saved your life, and this is how you repay me?”
Farion glared. “I must repay you? Fine. How much do you want?” He fished in the pouch hanging on his belt, ready to count out a handful of coins.
“Be my slave.”
