EXCERPT:

Lightning flickered and sparked across the horizon, illuminating the flat Kansas plains. Arms crossed, Bret leaned against the frame of the sliding glass door and watched the display. Somewhere out there, fate waited with a heavy hand. He never thought he’d be in this position, but he realized he would never trade his life now for the one he’d led before Steve came into his life.

“Hey.”

Strong hands slid up his arms, raising goosebumps then smoothing back over them. Bret let himself lean back as Steve massaged the tension out of his shoulders. “Couldn’t sleep.”

Those big hands worked his muscles, thumbs pressing hard, getting out the deepest kinks right in the center of the trapezius muscles near his neck. “How about you come back to bed,” Steve whispered, the massage easing and moving lower, over Bret’s chest. “I’ll get you to sleep the best way possible.”

Bret tipped his head back, his lips captured by his lover’s, Steve’s tongue sweeping lazily through his mouth. He could do this, he could make it through anything so long as he had this.

Hail pelted the roof and the back porch, but Steve didn’t seem to care. He lured Bret toward the bedroom door. Despite his scattered thoughts, Bret couldn’t help but smile. Steve didn’t stop until they reached another door down the hall. He opened it and pulled Bret inside.

As soon as they stepped into the middle of the room, Bret traced a finger down Steve’s chest, mapping the hard muscles. Fuck, Steve was a gorgeous man–so big, strong, muscles built up from hard work and Steve’s ten-year stint in the military. The man was still a soldier, bum hip or no.

“Arms up.”
