Description

Ricochet – Mychael Black

Arcanum Austin 3

Officer Liam Walsh has been best friends with dragon shifter Andy Fielding for many years. Over the last few, however, he’s found himself wondering if he’s as straight as he once thought. The urge to see if Andy feels the same is too much to ignore.

Andy Fielding has held a candle for Liam Walsh since meeting the vampire twelve years ago. When Liam surprises him with a kiss, Andy has zero chance of resisting. He has had no idea what to make of it, but he sure isn’t going to walk away without seeing where it leads.

EXCERPT:

“Hey, MagicMan!”

Andy Fielding grinned and dispelled the lingering energy. Only one person called him that. He washed his hands in the workshop sink and dried them on the towel hanging from his belt as he headed toward the black car parked in front of his ranch house. In the distance, dogs barked at the newcomer, all ten of them rushing up to the fence that surrounded the backyard, hoping for pets and treats. They knew they’d get them, too. Liam Walsh was a sucker for floppy ears and puppy dog eyes. Maybe that’s why Andy had yet to squash the ungodly crush on his best friend since they’d met twelve years ago.

“Hi there, stranger,” Andy said, giving Liam a tight hug. Christ, the man looked hot as sin in his uniform. “What brings you out here?”

Liam’s smile made Andy’s gut tighten. Hell, it always did. “I’m off for the weekend and thought you might like some company,” the vamp said as they started up the front porch steps. “Maybe take some time and hit the trails. Think you can pull yourself away from work for a bit?”

“For you, I’ll make the time, man.”

Andy opened the front door and gestured Liam inside, walking in behind him. He could’ve argued that it was just the gentlemanly thing to do, but a deeper, darker voice in his head called bullshit. Liam had an ass that just wouldn’t quit.

“Want a beer? Or you still on duty?”

“Nope, I’m off,” Liam said. He sat on one of the wooden barstools and nodded his thanks when Andy handed over an ice cold bottle. “Thanks, man. It’s been a hell of a week.”

“I’ve seen the news,” Andy said. He leaned on the bar and sipped his own beer. “Not much info, but Mal filled me in a bit when he called earlier. How are you guys doing over there?”

Liam sighed and raked a hand through unruly, dark auburn curls Andy longed to sink his fingers into. “I’m doing fine. This water flight is here with a vendetta against the last of the Silius clan, though. So not only are Mal and Xav targets, but their mates are, too.”

“Yeah… Mal told me about Xav and Tristan.” Andy chuckled and shook his head before taking a drink. “I can’t wrap my brain around that one.”

“Neither can we, but…” Liam shrugged. “They make it work somehow. But enough about that. How are things out here?”

Andy just rolled his eyes and snorted. “Translation: it’s time to play with the kids.”

Liam’s thousand-watt smile could’ve lit up the world. It certainly lit up Andy’s. “You know me so well.”

Laughing, Andy motioned toward the back door. “After you. Never let it be said I stood between a man and his true loves.”
