Description

Come Undone – Mychael Black

Bryce Caldwell likes his solitude, so when a tornado in black slams into him outside a bar, he has the feeling his life has just hit a major speedbump. Ricky Clements is a young man fleeing an oppressive existence up north. He doesn’t know what to make of the hot cowboy who feeds him and offers him a place to stay. The attraction between them is hard to ignore, but there are factors to consider. Keeping their hands off one another is proving difficult, though, and eventually someone’s going to crack.

EXCERPT:

“Don’t wanna see you ‘round here again!”

“Fuck you!”

Bryce Caldwell had only a split second before a tornado in black slammed right into him. The impact sent him stumbling backward, both of them landing hard against a lamppost. For a moment, the young man who’d hit him seemed dazed. It was long enough for Bryce to brush a bit of black hair aside. Storm-gray eyes looked up at him and then the man was shoving away, the tempest in those eyes growing. He might have been old enough to drink, but he still looked like a kid to Bryce.

“Don’t fucking touch me!”

Bryce threw up his hands. “Okay, okay. But as I recall, you ran into me.”

“Yeah. What the fuck ever.” The kid pushed more hair back, revealing a young face and eyes that looked like they’d seen one too many drinks.

“Well, since it seems like you’re done for the night,” Bryce said with a nod to the bar, “how ‘bout we go somewhere an’ let you sober up a bit?”

“Why the fuck do you care?” The words were more growled than said, the kid staring at Bryce suspiciously.

“You look like you need it,” Bryce said simply, one eyebrow lifting. Several minutes passed and he wondered if the kid was going to bolt. Then he just got a shrug and a sigh.

“Sure. Whatever.”

The kid bent to pick up a tattered backpack and slung it over his shoulder, shoving his sleeve up enough for Bryce to see the bottom edge of a tattoo. Saying nothing more, the kid waved toward the parking lot. Bryce turned and led the way back to his truck, feeling those stormy eyes fixed on him, watching him intently. He unlocked the passenger side door and opened it before going around to the driver’s side. When he slid up onto the seat, he looked over and realized the kid was still standing outside the truck, staring at him.

“You’re gonna have to get in,” Bryce said as he started the pickup.

“You’re not, like, some serial killer or something, are you?”
