Legends of the Romanorum, Book 7

An ancient force has awakened and is hellbent on nothing short of the total destruction of the Romanorum. Mael Black and Cian Carmichael are thrust into the middle of things, and it’s ultimately on their shoulders to save the Romanorum itself. In the meantime, they’ve got their hands full with bringing a new son into their family, and Mael’s father trying to force Mael to denounce his relationship with Cian. Betrayals and violent court intrigue set the stage for what promises to be an epic end to Mael and Cian’s story. But it’s only the beginning for others.

EXCERPT:

Prince Mael Black carefully warded the room, insuring none outside would hear anything discussed. Whatever was in the wind, Diocourides didn’t want it known. Mael settled, at ease, in one of the comfortable leather chairs beside Cian. “It shouldn’t be too long. He mentioned nine o’clock.”

“Do you have any idea what this is about?” Cian asked. “Whatever it is, it’s under tight wraps.”

“I haven’t the first clue, but when Diocourides commands my attention, I have no choice but to listen.”

“You could always ignore me, you know,” Diocourides said as he walked through the door. “It’s not like I’ll stake you and leave you out to dry.” Mael hastily stood and bowed. Dio waved his hand nonchalantly at Mael. “Do sit down and relax, my boy.”

Cian smiled. “Good evening, Diocourides.”

“A pleasure to see you again, Cian.” Dio helped himself to one of the bottles of wine, pouring a glass before he took a chair.

“How are you this evening?” Cian asked him.

“That depends on how well you two react to the news I have for you.” While Dio appeared relaxed, a near imperceptible tension began to show in him.

Mael’s brow arched. “You know I will not argue with you.”

“This time I’ll unfortunately have to hold you to that, Mael. It concerns the Inferi Brotherhood and both of you.”

Cian sat up a little straighter. “What about them?”

“Triarius’ son, Aldrich, was behind a number of the problems with the weres. Aldrich has been dealt with, of course, but we’ve yet to find all of his followers. However…” Diocourides eyed them both. “Aldrich is Brandon’s Father.” When no reaction came, the elder vampire narrowed his gaze on Mael. “You are not required to be polite at this point.”

“What?” Cian sank back into his seat, face pale. “His Father?”

Mael kept his own reaction hidden, knowing Cian would be stunned enough for the both of them. “It means quite a lot in terms of what Brandon is due and his responsibilities. Is Triarius going to demand his rights?”

“No, my son only wants to talk to Brandon. If the child wishes to take his place, I’ll allow him to, Mael, but it’s entirely up to him.”
