Author Spotlight: Rhiannon Fraser

Rhiannon Fraser is a fantasy & romance author of small town origins. Born in the south but raised in a small town in Maryland, she was a little more of a loner in her formative years and would spend much of her time writing and doodling on every paper she found.

Now living in West Virginia, married with three young children, she’s rediscovering her love for writing and determined to show the world what awaits in her colorful and busy mind.

You can find Rhiannon on Facebook and via her website.

Elyrea’s early years were upended by the Plague and left her, and her deathly-ill mother, stranded in a cabin. Ely learned to fight and hunt to survive the harsh winters and brutal summers of Verdanthia, but nobody could fend off the night beasts that hunted those woods after dark.

When her mother’s previous life and identity catches up to her, Elyrea is caught in the crossfire – and only the Gods, and a devilishly handsome beast, hold the dark truth behind it all.

When did you realize you wanted to be an author? Growing up, I loved to read and write. I think my love for writing first developed in elementary school. Me and my best friend at the time, we’ll call her M, we would be ‘those’ kids that doodled and scribbled on our assignments. Well, we wrote a whole book together in a composition journal.

That was my first experience of it and that’s when I realized I could build entire worlds and lives with just my words. Which is pretty neat!

Do you have a set writing schedule? Not exactly. I take time out of my day to jot some words down when and where I can, but with three young kiddos it’s sometimes a challenge.

Where do your story ideas come from? I get a lot of my inspiration from music and Pinterest boards – scenes, people, quotes. Anything can spark that little lightbulb.

What else do you enjoy besides writing? I enjoy creating digital and traditional art pieces, playing games solo or with my husband, and drinking way too much caffeine.

Do you have a favorite book/story that you’ve written? I had written some little drabble in middle school, and I really liked the idea of it (though it could’ve been much better, in hindsight,) so I may try to rewrite that at some time in the future.

If you weren’t an author, what other career would you want? An artist, or electrician. I love puzzles, creating things, and I do way more thinking with my hands than my brain honestly.

What comes first: plot or character? Plot. I like to build the plot first, or at least have a basic idea laid out, and let the characters build themselves and figure it out from there.

How do you feel when you finish a story? Still incomplete. There’s a whole world beyond my fingertips, sitting in my imagination – finishing the story, to me, is just finishing that one book. The story lives on and on.

How much worldbuilding do you do? I try to balance it with the rest, but sometimes I maaay get a little too absorbed in the finer details and focus too much on it!

Do you write with music or background noise? Both, but music tends to help the creative process moreso.

Do you have a favorite genre for reading and writing? Fantasy! Close second is romance.

Where can your readers find you online? Well, I’ve yet to drum up a Facebook for myself. But my writings can be found through ADBooks! 🙂

What do you have in the works now? Right now, it’s my debut, “Lady of the Lycans.”

EXCERPT:

“Well, you’re supposed to be dead – no witnesses. But I can offer you a life among us.”

I scrunched up my face, a human living with Lycans?

“You will be safe, I guarantee it.” He stood and walked over to me. With an extended hand, he continued. “Come with me, and you will have a home among us. If you decline… I can’t vouch for your safety from the other packs, but I will still watch over you.”

I bit my lip, studying him. Something in me wanted to trust this man. So I grasped his hand and pulled myself up. He had a warm and gentle demeanor, and when he placed his other hand over mine, I felt that warmth all over.

He looked into my eyes, and I thought I saw a brief shimmer come from them. “Thank you.” He flashed a devilish grin, highlighting a deep set of dimples that could kill any lovesick lad or lady. “And… I don’t believe I’ve gotten your name, darling.”

I scoffed. “You know, given these circumstances, one wouldn’t expect such warmth and intimacy.” He was wickedly hot, but I felt a bit wrong flirting after the events from the past few days. “My name is Elyrea Colinthys.”
